The Importance Of Sustainable Production And Consumption Patterns In The Logistics Sector
Today's logistics industry is undergoing a critical transformation in terms of both the efficient use of resources and the reduction of environmental impacts. The sector must focus on objectives such as optimising resource use, reducing carbon footprints and improving waste management. With this in mind, Sertrans Logistics has developed an innovative roadmap to promote responsible production and consumption patterns in the sector. In this context, the company, which has already carried out important projects, will continue to develop its projects in this area in the coming period.
Sertrans Perspective on Environmental Sensitivity
Sertrans continues to take concrete steps in line with its objectives of sustainability and environmental responsibility in the logistics sector. The practices implemented by the company to reduce its environmental impact reflect its determination to create a sustainable supply chain while achieving operational efficiencies and resource savings:
• Sertrans takes strong measures in waste management to minimise the environmental impact of its logistics operations. Vehicle tyres used in international transport are carefully managed as part of the company's recycling policy, reducing the environmental impact. These efforts not only reduce waste generation, but also support a sustainable supply chain approach.
• Replacing tractors in the fleet with new-generation vehicles with the highest fuel efficiency and Euro emission standards minimises our environmental impact by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, by focusing on increasing operational efficiency through route optimisation, Sertrans has achieved up to 65% improvement in carbon emissions by minimising fuel consumption in logistics processes. The effective use of intermodal transport allows energy use to be optimised by increasing its environmental benefits.
• Sertrans has also made significant progress in digitising its logistics processes and going paperless. Thanks to these processes, 8.5 tonnes of waste has been recycled in the last two years and resource consumption in business processes has been significantly reduced. All this is seen as a step towards sustainable production and consumption principles that support the efficient use of resources.
• In order to reduce the amount of energy consumed within the company, the efficient use of resources such as electricity, natural gas and water has been ensured, saving 1.4 million kWh of electricity, 127,000 Nm³ of natural gas and 11,000 m³ of water over the last three years. This sets an example for the responsible use of natural resources.
Future goals
Sertrans' future goals in its sustainability journey are to continue the principles of responsible production and consumption for the logistics sector:
Investing in the next generation fleet: In 2025, 20% of the trucks in the fleet will be replaced with new generation Euro emission standard vehicles to further reduce emissions. In addition, by 2025, 90% of the fleet will be replaced with vehicles meeting the latest emission standards and fossil fuel consumption will be reduced by 5%.
Increase waste recycling rates: Sertrans aims to increase the amount of recycled waste by 50% over the next five years to ensure sustainable waste management and minimise environmental impact through its zero waste policy.
Promoting intermodal transport: As a greener alternative to road transport, intermodal transport is a powerful tool for reducing carbon emissions. Sertrans aims to increase its market share and further reduce carbon emissions by increasing the capacity of this transport model.
Aware of its environmental responsibilities, Sertrans Logistics has integrated sustainable development objectives into its business processes. By taking these steps, in line with responsible production and consumption patterns, it is creating a sustainable supply chain model and positioning itself as a pioneer of change in the sector. Sertrans' sustainability strategy, under the motto “Value for Future”, sets a strong example for an environmentally friendly logistics sector.
